Macadamia nut oil has been long valued by Hawaiians for its ability to protect, soothe and condition the skin. It is the best plant source of palmitoleic acid, an Omega-7 fatty acid. The high content of palmitoleic, oleic, and omega-9 fatty acids makes macadamia nut oil an effective antioxidant, because it protects the skin's cell membranes from free radical damage, just as human sebum does. In recent research palmitoleic acid is also proving to be an effective antimicrobial on the skin's surface. -Skin Pharmacol Appl Skin Physiol. 2003 May-Jun;16(3):176-87
Production of palmitoleic acid declines in our skin as we age. By using products with macadamia nut oil, we can provide this important fatty acid to our skin. It is known to be particularly good for dry or mature skin that needs extra nourishment and moisture. It penetrates and hydrates skin quickly. It absorbs well into skin, and is highly emollient and soothing. Macadamia nut oil also contains alphatocepherols (Vitamin E) and squalene. (Int J Food Sci Nutr. 2004 May;55(3):171-8)
